The next TOTAL eclipse of the sun falls on Earth on 1 August 2008. Where will you be? 2008 August 1 - TOTAL Solar Eclipse. Max. Duration 2:27. High Arctic, Russia, Mongolia, China. Update: Many expeditions to China & Mongolia are SOLD OUT now, and flights to Beijing are becoming scarce as the Olympics draw near. I've decided to fly to Shanghai, China, and make my way up to Hami near the Mongolian border, then trek to Yiwu to observe the eclipse - only a few miles from the centre line of the umbra. This area is one of the few spots along the entire eclipse path that promises clear skies for this eclipse. If you haven't booked an expedition by now it might be hard to find one. Check out the remaining trips and see who still has space available: TravelQuest International in Arizona is selling the icebreaker expeditions to the North Pole, land excursions to China & Russia and an eclipse flight into totality in the High Arctic. Spears Travel is also going to China, as is the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, Calgary Centre. Don't just sit there! Time is running out! How about a visit to Mongolia? Check out Mongolian Ways and Mongolia Expeditions or go camping with Peter den Hartog, or discover the Altai Mountains on horseback. Check out the detailed maps for this eclipse with Fred Espenak at his NASA Eclipse Website. 2009 January 26 - Annular Solar Eclipse. Indian Ocean.
